Live, Love, Lose

I live the day to see you there,
A silhouette in the setting sun—on the edge of the pier.

I love the way you laugh—
Snorting like a pig every time you forget to give me my half.

I miss the days when this time was full,
We probably would’ve gone on some adventure until late Fall.

I mastered my trade because of you,
Always guiding me through the things we used to do.

I love how safe you make me feel,
How you taught me that only strength is real.

I miss your mischievous smirk,
From before I let them put you in the dirt.

I live to learn from a man of honor and discipline,
An observer with a whole other life hidden.

I love your strength, enduring so much strife,
The way you can find peace in such a simple life.

I miss the days of that genuine smile, so pure,
But the telephone pole came faster than I could mature.
