An Ode to the Drink

O, how it shines,
Dynamic,
Like sunlight on the seafloor.

O, how it pours,
Repetitive,
A ritual of selling your soul.

O, how it sings,
Enticing,
Like a siren’s song.

O, how it smells,
Peaty,
As if infused with the wisdom of the Earth.

O, how it tastes,
Burning,
With the fire of innocence lost.

O, how it breathes,
Lingering,
As you lose yourself.

O, how it feels,
Overwhelming,
A temporary escape from reality.

O, how it dreams,
Empty,
Where there is no anguish, nor despair.

O, how it lives,
Free,
Rid of doubt.

O, how it yearns,
Deafening,
A lullaby as you pass out on the couch.
