The Charge of Pastors as Shepherds

The pastor as shepherd of all his flock
Must govern with diligence.
With faith and with trust in God as his rock;
Ever seeking His presence.

Beware of deceits that lead to defeat;
Movement away from the fold.
Temptations find ways,  their tricks to repeat.
The Lord conquers their stronghold.

This is the path all pastors must take
As the shepherds of their flock.
Your mission is given for the Lord’s sake;
That He is the people’s rock.

The foundation of all the universe.
The heavens rejoice with praise.
His Kingdom extends all regions diverse;
His Holy Spirit ablaze.

Yours be the charge as servants assigned;
Anointed to serve the Lord.
By His Grace, and by His Mercy divined;
To serve Him with one accord.

About this poem

The job of a pastor, priest, rabbi, imam, or lama is not an easy task, each religious leader being asked to humbly serve, following the divine will of God, who is the Alpha and the Omega. From the perspective of the Christian faith, the pastor is being asked to serve Jesus as Lord and Savior, to continue to follow the guidance of Saint Paul, an Apostle of Our Lord, Jesus the Christ. In the book of Jeremiah 3:15 of the Holy Bible, the Lord says that He will give shepherds after His own heart to provide their flock with guidance, with knowledge, and with proper understanding. As believers in a divine God as the Father of humanity, we are reminded that we are all children of God and, therefore, as members of His family, are asked to love Him, even as He loves us; and to be our brothers keepers. In keeping with the month of October as National Clergy Appreciation Month, a celebration that was established in 1992, with its mission of uplifting and encouraging pastors, missionaries, and religious workers, this poem is written to honor all who serve the church, the synagogue, the temple, or the mosque, in their effort to serve God in unity and in fellowship, with one accord (Zephaniah 3:9). We pray that the Lord’s will be done. To God be the honor, the glory, and the praise.
