Beautiful Imperfection

I stand here looking at her.
A girl as perfect as can be.
Her perfect hair, nothing can compare.
Her perfect clothes and painted toes.
And perfect skin that glows.
She looks perfect but no one knows;
Underneath all her perfection,
Chaos flows.
There is nothing perfect about her.
She is who she is.
She is perfectly imperfect, head to toe.
Everyone stressed her out when they'd say,
She is perfect in every way.
For a long time she strived for perfection.
It became an obsession.
The pressure was too strong.
She decided to prove them all wrong.
She gave up her dreams and ambition.
She gave in to drugs, her new addiction.
She left her family and life behind.
One day a new purpose she would find.
She prayed for death, for the pain to end.
But God gave her a son and a friend.
So as I stand here looking at her,
I see how perfectly imperfect she can be.
No longer obsessed with perfection.
No longer lost without direction.
She has been through a lot,
But it hasn't been for not.
She has learned many lessons.
And received many blessin's.
This imperfect world has shown this girl,
How perfect it is to be imperfect.

About this poem

It's about what can happen when people put too much pressure on someone to be perfect all the time.
