Arranged Marriage
Have you ever pushed two decks of cards together?
Into one another until they become one?
But without making sure if the decks are the same size or shape
Or if the patterns on the backs clash with one another
It doesn’t matter if they fit right you just gotta keep pushing
Pushing, pushing, pushing, pushing
Until one card bends and another does too
And the decks rush into each other
The cards don’t slide smoothly, it’s choppy
There’s friction
Cards bend and bounce out of the top
In the middle, some fold
But you keep pushing
And pushing, and pushing, and pushing, and pushing
Until you’ve got one deck.
It’s one that’s hard to shuffle and even harder to deal.
But it’s one deck nonetheless.
Have you ever done that?
Because it’s like that.
Your cards may have been purple and my cards may have been green
But over time they’ll both turn to a faded brown.
