Unlike Any Others

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

So troubling are these times.
Going beyond words to find to define them.
Or attempt to explain,
The eventual effect to expect comes next.

For example.
From the many to pick,
To depict the seriousness...
Of what today craze is.
Unlike any other craze to observe.
But not admit.

Hypothetically (wink-wink).
Does one's admission to confess if being,
A hopeless idiot.
Already suspected to be a fool at best.
Upgrades the perception others already have.
From being thought an imbecile.
To moron status.
Yes. Go ahead with your comments!

'And...
We are spreaking hypothetically, right?'

Sure. Whatever. Of course.

'I would say,
Only if that admission had not been coached.
And one is made to believe,
Their self description fits perfectly.
So...
Hypothetically (wink-wink),
Which description...
Did this confessor of being ignorant select?
They thought best described,
Their mind the best?'

They chose...
Imbecile!

'Imbecile?
Interesting.
Why imbecile?'

Okay.
And please...
No intense smiling.
Or the holding onto stomachs,
Moaning.
In attempts to prevent laughter.
This is a very serious matter.
Well...
It was told to me and others witnessing.
That they thought to believe the word 'moron',
Had implications...
Of 'inviting more on' to a boat they floated.
Taking away their wish to want,
To be considered unlike others.
With that to have been,
Already long confirmed and validated.

'Who...
Could be that dumb?
Hypothetically?'

In these times and days we live,
People are fighting to be given...
This kind of recognition!
