They never told us that Black is Beautiful

Black, Dark Skinned, Brown eyes
White teeth, dimples, goosebumps on their skin
Red lips, nose not pointed, but perfectly carved
Skin color similar to darkness, but still shining light; ebony

Soft, black curly hair
Like the Yin and Yang, Calm with a touch of lethality
As the head holds the body, so also he holds his family
Like an hunchback, he by his hunch carries others problems on his back

He may be dark, but he carries a torrent of light inside of him
He's like a magnet, every iron wants to cleave
He's like a paradise, a hoard of persons seeking to attain
Black, Dark Skinned, Brown eyes

The Black Man
Red lips, nose not pointed, but perfectly carved.

About this poem

A negritude poem, celebrating the beauty of the black race and black as a color; black is not beautiful in spite of its blackness, black is beautiful because of it.
