FADE AWAY

Famished, Suffocated
From hunger, from impecuniousness
Pressured,
From trying to protect those I love

Severed,
From a partner's love
Irritating,
To my son, who was birthed, while I was protecting the border

Strange,
To my daughter, who has forgotten what I look like
Shocked,
Is a wife who sees her "dead" husband back home

I fight for my country, but I tussle with keeping my family
Their love for me is fading away; it has faded away, like black, fades to shades of Grey.

About this poem

This poem talks about the travails of all that go to war. It's mainly about a soldier who left home for years just to protect the border from insurgencies, he couldn't go back home and his wife thought he died, his daughter couldn't recognize him, and his son who was already conceived before he left saw him as a stranger.
