Mini soldiers

The mini soldiers in my head face each other
They battle all through the day and all through the night
They don’t take breaks
As they jab at each other with their toothpick swords
Toothpicks can’t hurt that bad
though my ankle cries it’s bloody tears
they knock paintings off the walls
They rip pieces off the wallpaper
They tear the fabric of the furniture
They’re  in a long battle, and they’re destroying everything around them in the process
Couldn’t they choose somewhere else to fight
My head is not a fit place
They hold their muffin wrapper shields in front of themselves
Saving them from the swords
The tiny soldiers just won’t stop
They’ll destroy everything in there I’m sure of it
They battle and battle
Trying to win
Trying to get their sharp toothpick swords past the shields
Trying desperately to protect themselves
But they stay numb
They stay quiet
They just fight and fight
I wish they would leave
I wish I never gave them their swords and offered them their shields
I wish I never built them up In my head
I wish I never made toothpicks hurt
I wish my ankle would calm its tears and heal
They continue to fight
Will they fight forever?
Will they never leave?
I don’t know
but I really hope
That one day I can live in peace
Rebuild the rooms
Repair the sheets
Fix the paintings
Patch the chairs
Sweep the rubble from the ground
Clean the stairs
And all around
One day I want them to leave
To leave me here to rebuild
To leave me alone to rebuild
But then I would be alone
Do I really want that?
