Jitters

Some days I get the jitters
And I’ll shake and I’ll shiver
And my heart pitter patters
Up against my chest
Like a tiny tap dancer
And my pupils expand
And my eyes fill with tears
And they soak up the darkness
And all of its fears
And I’ll quiver and twitch
And I’ll get a bad itch
And I’ll scratch at my skin
Till it turns green as a witch
And I’ll take long deep breaths
That will dry out my lips
And I’ll try to calm down
As my stomach does flips
I’ll panic again
Set my hand on my heart
Feel my pulse pounding
As the cycle restarts
Over
and over
again
