Innocence Lost

A young child lost in a crowd
Sounds around way too loud
People scurrying here and there
Lots of people everywhere.

No one stops to hear the cry
No one even questions why
The child left alone and scared
While the crowd passing shows no care.

Is this the fate of the human race?
And will we vanish without a trace?
For if no one cares who sheds a tear
There will be no reason to be here.

About this poem

I was visiting family in New York and standing on the sidewalk watching people hurrying past me pushing there way from here to there and saw a small child in the fray. And suddenly felt the need to write these lines down.

My poetry is random. It is as if something sets a light inside me and the words just seem to roll out. I have only written a few poems. I live in Washington state on a small farm. I enjoy my life here with my wife and mother-in-law and all our animals. more…
