Nature’s Getaway

D.S.Elliott 1950 (Sydney)

Just on dusk by quiet pond
The enemy lays in wait

Eyes transfixed on diner
Fox hides from his prays fate

Feathered friend glides on silken waves
Created by crystal breeze
Peacefulness is all around
Yet Duck is ill at ease

Fox is waiting for his chance
To make his presence felt
Could this be Duck heaven or hell

Cricket chirps a warning sound
Feathered friend takes flight
Ripples on the water found

Diner now out of sight !

The chain of life, what an amazing poem ! This imagination is so very real, that noble duck is safe yet for another day thanks to his cricket friend !
