The Glacier

The glacier yields its bounty, sparingly drip-by-drip.
The nascent river winds its way along the rocky landscape.
Far below, the valley knows only the majestic waterway.
Water flows to sate the thirst of man, the growth of crops.

Seldom does the glacier host a visitor or two.
It works in solitude, delivering life to man and beast.

Climb the mountain peak and hoist a flag.
Trample upon the glacier, but spare a thought:

The glacier is a frigid friend – it wants not a warm embrace.
