Sit

Sit.
Alone and far as possible.
Away from all the nonsense and B.S.
You don't deserve this.
Take some time to realize,
Your life as it is...
Could and can be for you better live.
If only you are allowed to get some rest.

Just sit.
How much control over,
Of what others do?
To have you that involved?
With one minor exception.
Children still growing.
Expecting you to solve,
Every question they ask.
Seeking you to at least pretend,
The answer is within your reach.
You know...
Questions that are simple.
Like,
If there is only One God to pray to.
What is His relationship,
With Mother Nature.
And when they begin to argue?
God and Mother Nature.
Is that why God is heard to roar?
Making lightning and Thunder sounds.
And Mother Nature ignores this.
By paying God back.
Creating Her own havoc.
Choosing to use all kinds of storms.
As Daddy says,
Leave your mother alone.
Give her some space.
Whenever she says, 'Get away from me.
Get out of my face?'
Do this immediately.
Tip toe if necessary.
Like I do when her voice is raised.

Just let her sit.
Alone.
And as far away from the nonsense and B.S.

And...
Remember to know this,
If you witness both of us doing it.
At the same time in different spaces?
Know it is not the time,
To ask either one of us...
How you got here or where you came from.
Since this might have caused,
Me to roar.
And your mother to slam doors.
After breaking all the dishes.

'Oh...
Dad?
Like the time you said to me,
Where on Earth did you come from.
And you said,
Go ask your mother.
And then she said,
Your father knows.
But refuses to admit,
Having anything to do with it.'

And...where is your mother now?

'The last time I saw her.
She was sitting alone in the basement.
With the lights off and humming to herself.'

Whew!
That's a relief.
Maybe tonight,
We'll have something to eat.
That has not been purposely burned.

'But, dad...
Why don't you cook?'

I don't know how.

'Ask mom to show you.'

Well...
I have a question for you.
Do you like living here?

'Uh...yes.'

Do you love both of us as your parents?

'Yes, Of course I do.
Is this a trick?'

No.
And we both love you too!
But you know what I have learned,
From your mother to teach me?
Whenever she goes to the basement.
Alone to sit and begins to hum?
That is not the time,
To question why she does it.
When a boat floats.
Don't begin to rock it.
Eat your mother is doing,
Is a sign sent from God to warn us both.
To leave well enough as it is.
Or experience a storm.
Not to know what's going on.
Until days later...
When she, Mother Nature,
Decides to have us believe the coast is clear.

'That makes no sense.
I don't understand.'

Right now you don't.
We are both safely away from the boat.
With one we know,
Sitting in it quietly and alone.
Enjoying the trip.
But one day, as God is my witness.
You will understand to know,
Inside of our home,
Where we are right now?
Your mother rules.
Outside of our home...
She lets me pretend I am the boss!
And you, her child....
Is the best thing,
That ever happened in her life.
So...
Let your mother sit.
Quietly and by herself.
And when she is through,
She'll be an entirely different person.

'I don't get it.
What about role play?'

Today?
Even that has changed.
Whoever tops or bottoms,
In the relationships you kids have these days?
But know this to understand it quick.
Whoever cooks and does it good enough.
To leave you ducking thrown dishes.
Is the boss.
No matter who tosses the salad.

'Huh?'

And...
Appearances?
Are not always what they appear to be!

'Daddy?
What are you talking about?'

Life.
Options.
And the pursuit of happiness.

'I'm going out.
I'm not going to ask anymore questions.'

You will.
You're still young.
Have your fun.
But keep a hat on it.

'WHAT?'

And change your password on your computer.

'WHAT?'

Okay...
I'll play stupid and you stay dumb!
