Mother's Nature
She was aligned with the seasons.
When the first leaf departed from its branch,
Momma was back to work,
nurturing budding minds.
Momma’s morning commute started just before the sun touched land.
The muted hum of an engine faded into the distance
as the street light clocked out for the day.
Mom brought home more work than she left with—
accompanied by an air of eeriness.
Her presence was felt rather seen, incorporeal almost,
a force fixated on the next lesson plan,
her blinds drawn, low lights casting long shadows.
Snowstorms caked the earth in white,
but that didn't change a thing.
The bags under her eyes could be confused with fatigue
but momma was up the next morn, outpacing the sun!
Warm winds whipped through tall grass,
announcing the last days of school
and the blooming of her smiles.
The sun poured itself into our small home,
filling it to the brim with warmth,
purging the last season's cold, long shadows.
Mom coasted on those waves of light,
with strength anew,
Power
akin only to the winds of monsoons
- no longer confined to her room.
