Repose
Brady Bowen 1973 (Louisiana)
before the dawn broke
her breath sighed whispered lullabies
becalmed face touched by argent moonsight
as the silver lady smiled through glass
no cares draw emotional fault lines
on the landscape of her loving face
no worry-wind to muss her locks
I adore her most when she's at rest
outside a single sparrow speaks
softly celebrating the gift of feathered life
while the cat dreams herself resplendent
and I slip into the only tranquil dream I know
it's only her fingertips that brand my face
the lightest touch of willow-leafed peace
easefulness flows; a torrential stillness
and I greet my smile; a returning prodigal
