Words Versus Swords

Harmony Mendelow 1945 (Brooklyn, New York)

March 22

Words can be swords
If left untamed
What’s the intention behind the phrase
Was it meant to be kind
Or was someone then blamed

Did you repair the spoken tear
Or further rip open the hole that was there

Did you ever notice how the words
“I’m sorry”
Can change the course
Of the whole conversation

From fear and bitterness
To love and forgiveness
From anger and resentment
To open contentment

And all that can happen
And change on a dime
As opposed to what festers
And lasts a lifetime

About this poem

The intense power of words and how much they can affect you.

Not only can something as simple as "I'm sorry" change the state of those we aim it toward, but for us as well when we utter it. It truly is amazing this human mind and how we borage and berate within the confine of the mind when all we need do is reverse course to freedom and forgiveness. I love this piece, Harmony. It is as true as true is.
