If Only

Little voice inside your head
Knows what’s right or full of dread
Too many things out of control
One way, this way, I don’t know
You are calling my name, I don’t hear
So full of loss, confusion, and fear
Your eyes look forward, your mind thinks back
No time to make plans, you’re losing track
What we once planned is no longer here
You’re outside your head and full of tears
Some smiles and sparkles do remain
One step back and you’re here again
Looking at me so full of life
One step forward and you’re out of sight
You are loved no matter what each day you’re here
A smile, a hug, I love you too, and you’re back for a bit
If only for a moment, I’ll take it and smile
Your love, your life, will be cherished forever
If only you were here and we were still together
