Good old days

GOOD OLD DAYS
I sit and let my mind stray.
Back to the good old days
When I would passionately recite the national anthem
Be proud to carry the country's emblem
When Nigeria was my father's land
And in unity we all stand.

Deep in thought still I go wandering
When Nigeria was still a darling
We all would recite the pledge with our heart
Loyal to it’s course, not trying to be smart
Striving together till her goals we attain
Irrespective of the sufferings or pain

Beam of smile flash across my face
As these good thoughts,I embrace
Thoughts of how good and simple our lives were
When we could easily afford good food and wear
Share the ones we had with one another
Live in peace as sisters and brothers

There I go, still lost in thought
Of how hard our heros had fought
To build the sweet nation we once had
But now we've lost it all, very sad
A nation once filled with unity, love and pride
We were all once one and not in sides

Strongly I hold on to these memories
It gladdens my heart like sweet melodies
Even though the pains of today exceeds the joy of yesterday
I wouldn't forget those good old days
When we live without fears or worries
And will happily sit at the back of lorries.

About this poem

It's simply about my country Nigeria of how it has moved from a beloved and good country to a pit of hell
