Spring in The Desert

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

If you wake up to suffering and pain
Sit down in your chair and wait for the rain
See showers of blessings falling outside your window
The tears on the cheeks of people you know

They cry from the joy that comes from the pain
The suffering is over, they do not complain
Wait for the Lord and he’ll teach you his ways
Walk in his ways and you’ll have a good day

But if you refuse to hearken and listen
You’ll stay out at night; but won’t know who you’re kissing
The wages of prostitutes never increase
They just lay around until they’re deceased
