Getting Knocked Down

It’s really hard to love a stone
And that’s what we’re becoming
I hate the way we bite each other
Where is all the loving?
I used to think we had a lot
But we never had any
And now that I can see; I’m blind
I think we should be pitied
How did we ever get this far?
Without any conviction
I know it’s written somewhere
But I can’t find that prediction
I know if we don’t turn around
We’ll drive right off a cliff
Then we’ll be what we really are
Another couple of stiffs

At one time I was happy
Now all I do is cry
My pain has gotten so intense
I really want to die
I don’t think we can take anymore
This might be the end of the road
And when I think it really is
My sorrow only grows
Just as once I loved your frame
And tried to love your soul
But found I can’t do either one
I’m falling in a hole
Throw a rope into the pit
And try to pull me out
Don’t leave me here to starve to death
Your sin will find you out
But if you choose to leave me here
Ignoring all of my crying
One day you’ll plead with all your friends
But they’ll just leave you dying
