Jealousy

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

What beautiful legs you have my dear
And a soft, white, supple tail
What man would not desire you?
For you they’d go to jail!
Your eyes are like deep waters
On the surface we see light
But when we get in deeper
It is black, as dark as night
The light of love won’t shine down there
Its only filth and lust
Swim back up to the surface
To the light and do what’s just
Don’t covet married women
In your heart, defile them
Blows and wounds will be your lot
And you will have no friends
