Thunder

Kamino 1983 (New York)

Thunder envelops me wakening long dormant parts of my body and brain. My eyes stretch open, scanning the sky hoping to see the neon crack. They find nothing, they are too late, for the sound always comes after the light.

But then I witness a new electric vein extend from the ether to the earth. It sears my eyes. And then the thunder, like the crack of a weep, except deep as if the sound is a bellow from the earth itself. My hair stands on end but I'm not afraid. I feel Alive. Awakened. Electric. As if the energy from the sky traveled down to the earth and from the earth up through my feet penetrating my body and imbuing me with that etheric magnificence reminding me that I am not just ON the earth but I am OF the earth and in it.
