TERROR FROM THE DAWN OF TIME

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Terror from the dawn of time
Long before true life began,
Æon-dead creatures run wild
In the current age of man.

Horrors far too foul to see
Without surely losing your mind,
Far to ghastly for human eyes
Hideous enough to drive you blind.

Bristle-like spines and razer teeth
Designed to chew on meat and bone,
Somehow living in the human age
Belonging to a time long gone.

Pterosaurian reptiles up above
Swooping through the night sky,
Watching for movement below
Until they give a shrilling cry:

Spotting innocents out walking
Pterosaurs are zooming down,
Hoping soon to feast on people
Standing frozen to the ground.

Terror from the dawn of time
Somehow reborn in the present,
Feeding upon the human race
Daemons surely all Hell sent.

Flighted monster from another era
Come to annihilate all humans,
Wiping out every woman and babe
Slaughtering every single man.

Until the Earth is a desert wasteland
Where only grotesquerie reside,
In the ruins of the once-great city
Crumbling since the last person died.
