"Burnt Face" a Symbol of Beauty
Yeshiembet/Yeshi Gemaneh 1940 (Harar)
O dear, you precious bean bright in the dark
Like the shinning of an evening star
Twinkling on top of the hill
The beauty of your color never fades
You are stiffer than steel and as bright as a diamond
Among all things embraced , as you are priceless
Yet to be a winner with head heald high, through the protection
of the LORD
Beauty, kindness and respect are deep rooted in
your nature
Behaviour is important to preserve your brightness
It is common in the beginning to be tough
The end is the result of hard labor
With pride and pleasure a bright day ahead
Your journey with faith and hope to win
Your beauty is natural with no artificial make-up
Poverty should not hinder you, your dream to prosperity; it is achievable with education and hard work. You should be proud of your color "You Burnt Face, Ethiopia"
About this poem
This poem is about my country of origin, Ethiopia. A country with many adversity, with many challenges, yet traveling forward for better tomorrow. Natural beauty, cultural identity, and intellectual property all in one.
