"Emma"
Yeshiembet/Yeshi Gemaneh 1940 (Harar)
"Emma"
My mother, I dreamed every day of you
Your kindness all gone with you
Your smile, concern, and care to the last
You were an open market to all
You were a special mirror where
I could see my shadow as well
The door remained tightly closed
It will not be open again
You are gone forever
With no hope of return, but with many
Memories behind, all that unpaid debts
I could not come home before your death
My heart still remembers
The undying memory in me remains forever
