Changeling
Fox Warren 1984 (Dublin)
I steal into the night
I feel the starlight on my body
discarded clothes
disused roads
and a forest as my only witness
no sense of foreboding for my folly
I chase the darkness from my day
I find the great quiet where all
the dark things play
into which I let
my heart ignite
I sacrifice myself to
the witch of the lake
amongst the reeds where
all things bleed
she pleads with me to stay
my last breath the only price
I must pay
I break from within her icy womb
as morning looms
I meander a while without purpose
I search for a moment
on her surface
for the sound that brought me in
