Ilk And Their Leaders

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

To whose benefit is it,
Kept to keep repeated steps taken.
On a road already paved.
Old in age and desperately needing,
Another direction towards...
A brighter and broaden horizon.
Enlightening narrow minds.
Finding updating to renovate these times,
Limits opportunities.
No longer found accommodating,
Those younger and more experienced.
To know...
What has been lived is gone.
With a moving on never to come back.

Yet those of old,
Living with their hold on the past...
Insist,
If more enemies to create them...
Will eventually lead to a peaceful future.
One that promises,
To leave them powerful.
Over all humanity.
And...
Threat free.
How incredible and dangerous,
Are their kept delusions...
Sold to sell and marketed to believe.

Although the same ilk,
Follow their leaders.
Blinded by greed,
Done exclusively to feed upon...
This dead end road,
To repeatedly explore and adventure.
With a grabbing positions,
Making decisions and assuming...
Forever they will sit,
Away and distant from jealousy and envy.
Kept to keep from destroying themselves.
Believing their taught to teach agendas,
Are left dormant in the minds...
Of the very ones ambitious and seeking,
Their own deceiving ways to defeat...
The very same tunnel vision leaders,
Who taught them how...
To successfully achieve a greed to feast,
Without the approval of their leaders.
They duped to victimize.
By fresh lies to use to defeat them.

'Wait.
They had others believe,
We were the threat and enemies...
To their precious quality and way of life!'

'And...
We are not?
What has changed?
I wish they make up their minds.
I thought we were making progress,
By peacefully marching.
And protesting against,
Those ancient and aged to rust...
Days and times of the past!
What's happening now?
I just bought a pair of brand new boots.'

'Stop. Check them out.
They and the leaders of their pack,
Have begun arguing among themselves.'

'Over what, now?!'

'Listen to them closely.
They no longer are arguing over,
The diversity of ethnicity.
But who among them deserves,
More power than the others...
With more credit given,
To the ones who received...
Media coverage for their misdeeds.
Leaving us to find,
Another way to get attention!'

'I'm telling you...
Every time the spotlight shines on us?
The do all they can,
To make it about themselves.
So...
What should we do now?
Await for them to start singing,
WE SHALL OVERCOME?
Or KUMBAYAH?'

'Hmmm.
Either way,
Something tells me...
If that should happen,
They will begin to accuse us...
For not appreciating what they do,
To try to understand...
Anything they do that attempts it done,
With soul and rhythm.'

'And...
That would be what?
A lie to tell to please them?'
