The Black Cat

Ethan Duarte 2004 (Oregon)

A pitch black night
with no one in sight

A little black cat strolling down the road
when it notices a green toad

The cat says hello
the green toad changed to a bright yellow

scared, the little black cat says good day
and quickly walks away

The cat strolling down the street
stepped on glass, hurting it's feet

Now injured, the cat falls down
the cat looks around the town
but no one is around

All alone with no signs of help
the poor black cat cries out in a yelp
scared out of it's mind the cat closes it's eyes
when the cat opens their eyes they look toward the sky

The cat is no longer outside but rather in a house
late at night a human strolled by
coming across a little black cat

The human, caring and gently, took the black cat home
In search of finding a cat of their very own.

Now safe from all kinds of danger outside
the little black cat sighs
They can now live in peace and bathe in the sunlight.
