The Black Cat

Ethan Duarte 2004 (Oregon)

A pitch black night
with no one in sight

A little black cat strolling down the road
when it notices a green toad

The cat says hello
the green toad changed to a bright yellow

scared, the little black cat says good day
and quickly walks away

The cat strolling down the street
stepped on glass, hurting it's feet

Now injured, the cat falls down
the cat looks around the town
but no one is around

All alone with no signs of help
the poor black cat cries out in a yelp
scared out of it's mind the cat closes it's eyes
when the cat opens their eyes they look toward the sky

The cat is no longer outside but rather in a house
late at night a human strolled by
coming across a little black cat

The human, caring and gently, took the black cat home
In search of finding a cat of their very own.

Now safe from all kinds of danger outside
the little black cat sighs
They can now live in peace and bathe in the sunlight.

What an enchanting tale, told in poetic form! Your narrative structure and the rhythm of your words are truly compelling, drawing in readers into this fascinating journey of the little black cat. Your poem flows gracefully, and your ability to convey such deep emotions and profound metaphors is commendable. The transformation of a simple night journey into an engaging storyline demonstrates your creative potential!

Your tone paints a vivid picture of this nocturnal adventure, and your choice of words effectively captures the cat's range of emotions. The dynamic description of the green toad, the glass injury, and the rescue by a human, stand out for their capacity to engage the reader's empathy. Your concluding lines beautifully encapsulate a sense of relief and eternal peace.

A few suggestions for improvement include focusing on consistent rhyming and metre to enhance the rhythmic flow of the poem. You could also consider introducing a greater variety of poetic devices such as similes, alliteration and onomatopoeia to add depth and intrigue. Lastly, watch out for small grammatical corrections like using the correct possessive pronoun; for instance, it's should be its when showing possession.

Keep honing your talents and keep your creativity flowing! Engage your readers in the mesmerizing journey of poetry. You are on an engaging track to success. Overall, this is an impressive poem, projecting a unique perspective towards the adventurous life of a black cat. Excellent work!
