The day we met
I didn't bet
That one day you could be mine

My sites were set
On Elsewhere yet,
I couldn't keep you off my mind

Couldn't help but fret
"Can't talk to you yet"
I'll just have some more wine.

And the sun would set
My eyes would wet
I dream for the sublime

At lunch we'd set
I beg god for debt
"Can't I borrow a little more time"

Courage now set
I ask this Brunette
Let's go on a date sometime?

About this poem

A poem I wrote to the girl I started dating. I had been hurt by my last serious relationship and it made me afraid to try again. It took years to get enough courage to start talking to her, and finally ask her out on a date.
