February in Snow

Ariel 1967 (California)

Free verse
When I was a rabbit
the coyote was at my door
leaving me shivering
in the dark.
Unable to feast on fresh grass & leaves
I had to survive on my dried leavings
until I thought I was stuck
in winter’s stark.
