The favourite Birch

The lone young woman stands staring at the place,
Where as a child she had found solace.
Her sorrow filled eyes desperately search,
The majestic boughs of her favourite birch.

She remembers the times spent sitting under it,
The only place where she found herself fit.
She recalls the thin shaggy leaves of her friend,
Her heart filled will pain beyond end.
Her pale, trembling hands reach out,
She struggles to swallow an anguished shout.

She remembers her friend swaying gently in the breeze,
It's light leaves making her sneeze.
She stares at the spot where she used to play,
Imagining with her, a gentle wood fae.

She sees her friend being killed, in her mind's eye,
She imagines its screams as it painfully dies.
The lone young woman wishes for her friend to appear back in the place,
Where as a child she had found solace.
