Alone

I was just a little girl, when he left me alone,
Standing still on the cold porch, chilled to the bone.
He promised me that he would be back, to meet his little flower,
I kept praying day and night, no matter what the hour.

I sat at the window all day, hoping he would be back again,
Only if I had known then, it was all in vain.
I gazed at the stars sparkling, trying to find sleep,
The echo of his sweet lullabies, always making me weep.

I wished for the safety of his arms, the warmth of his eyes,
I resented him, for leaving me with all these 'Whys'.
I hoped with all my heart that he was safe,
Searching somewhere for his little waif.

Years have passed, the winter snow is falling crisp,
His memory in my mind is nothing more than a wisp.
I am not a little girl anymore, not foolish enough to hope,
I now know, of his return, there is no scope.

I just wish with all my heart, that there was some valid reason,
That my father left me alone on a porch in the middle of the winter season.
