THE SMILE SAYS IT ALL

I have an image in a deep recess of my mind,
that of a photograph of a frail elderly man ,
published in the newspaper ,
he is to his neck level waddling through flood water.

He is carrying a dalipilated sewing machine on one shoulder,
with a big beaming smile on his face,
as if saying quietly that, despite losing
in the flood  everything ,
he had managed to save his precious sewing machine ,
and the smile on his face ,
saying he can still try to stitch up his life with that embrace,
that’s the smile on his face,
I will always remember with grace.
