AT NANDO’S WITH BONNIE

AT NANDO’S WITH BONNIE

Bonnie loved going out
A quiet , dignified person
Yet every now and then
She would be exuberant
One could see the joy and exultation
On her face on these occasions

No debate about Nando’s
That’s one of her most desirables
Often we would go there
And at times I would be the Uber

I would get on the bus with no fare*
Or sometimes drive there with a flair
Bonnie would text me what to order
As I queued up behind 10 people there

I remember all she would want
So clearly  still in my mind
Chicken legs with medium lime
And always , always the corn on the cob
And always also with extra butter knob

We both liked the spicy chicken liver
Her favourite also
The spicy rice with a quiver
We would share this Fayre out
With Jahnavi and Adam also in the house

Our favourite jaunt to Nando’s
Often was in person
It didn’t need to be a particular occasion
Bonnie would be so kind
As to que up on my behalf
She knew how troubling was my unease
Standing long on my wobbly knees

Many a time Bonnie would tell me
With an excitement so joyously
That she was going to see a friend or two
With her characteristic gusto
Where else but at Nando’s !

Bonnie and we always relished
Not only the food but also the atmosphere
To be in a Nando’s wherever
The jostling crowd and the laughter
Still ring in my ears

Long live Nando’s for making
A happier life for my daughter
Alas, she is no longer with us here

* No fare because I am a golden age Pensioner!!
* I was not dodging the fare
