Undressing

Late at night when all light has disappeared
All my might just to fight this creeping fear

Will they see?
Watching me?
I must keep my facade

All this fright
Out of sight
Please let me pretend

All the perfect people in pretty night gowns
Just as delightful with or without crowns

Sail to sleep
Remember no more
Dream of the deep
What is life for?

Meanwhile...

I peel it off bit by bit
The suit so well knit

Glowing orange against lamp light
My skin folded neatly nice and tight

My muscle and bones on display
I cannot bear to be seen this way

I am not like others
Not a mere man
I am not like others
It's why I ran

I'll find new friends and a new town too
Where I will be unknown, fresh and new

Until I am seen without my skin
Until I am seen with my fleshy grin

Dawn breaks in stealing my peace like a thief
My precious few hours of darkness without grief

No woe or worry as I sit next to my skin
Ironic, what people value is ever so thin
