GIVING

They say charity begins at home.
This may be true and a belief in me grown.
Just like stewards announce in aircrafts
‘Put your own mask first before you help others’,
so too one should look after oneself first
so that one can better help afterwards.

Charity begins at home.
But perhaps it’s more rewarding
for us to be the first person ‘giving’
than it is for us to be first ‘receiving’.
There is far more joy  in ‘giving’
as has been the teaching
from sages and saints unceasing.

Charity is pure and simple,
an unadulterated  sentiment.
There is a sense of heaven on earth
when you ‘give’ to your fellow beings
be they friends or strangers on hearth
you come to their rescue as your siblings.
Age old wisdom is profoundly sterling,
‘ A friend in need is a friend indeed’.

Charity is all powerful,
a sense of one with all.
‘Giving’ gladdens the soul and the heart soars
the delight inside with pleasure roars
to heights  unimaginable outwards
that is charity’s hidden powers.

Giving indeed is heartening
joy is all for the ‘giver’ , a thought so chastening.
Charity begins at home,
our inner kindness bound in a tome.
