First Sunrise

I was blind
But now I see.
It has opened up
A whole new world to me.
This morning I am sitting
On a blanket in the sand.
Waiting for something
That’s supposed to be grand.
I have been told
That there will never be
Anything more beautiful
For me to see.
I sit
And anticipate,
But all I can do
Is wait.
It’s finally time
It’s five thirty eight.
Can this really
Be so great?
I see it there
On the horizon.
The whole place
Is now brightening.
The colors spread
Across the sky.
It is so beautiful
My friends didn’t lie.
A simple thing in life
Makes me glad to be alive.
I’ll be back for the sunset.
At seven twenty five.

About this poem

I was reading a poem by Mark Cloutier called "And a Fire is Lit" and the idea came to me. I had to write it right quick before I lost the thought.
