In Darkness He Made Me See

Had my life ended or had it just begun
My wife had died, giving birth to my only son
I didn't know, if I should cry
Or put on a smile and try
I remember her last words to me
Live for him and live for me
Shall be with you both, I forever
Even in heaven, shall I you both, treasure
Make out of him a strong man, as you can be
Life will never be empty, unless you want it to be
Be his mother, his brother, his friend
Don't ever make him feel, that it is the end

Years passed and he grew
Taught him all that I knew
Became his mother, his brother, his friend
Tried never to show him, the dead end
Life was unfair, so cruel to me
What wrong had I done, that it had to be
Had taken away, my wife from me
Left with me a token of love, did she
Only later realized, that color blind was he

I learnt to smile in front of him
But cry and cry, deep within
Had to be someone I couldn't be
To put on a face, as happy as can be
From where could I gather, that strength, that power
To give it to my son and see him flower
From where could I teach him, to be himself
When I was putting on a act myself
How could I tell him that, life can be so ruthless
How could I dampen his spirits and tell him, all was fruitless

A teddy he wanted, as gift on his birthday
Took him to the store, when came that day
The keeper asked, what color bear he would like
I said it didn't matter, as to him all were alike
I grabbed a bear as quickly as can be
He innocently asked, "What color is he"
I didn't know what to say to him
My smiling face, overcome with grim
Tears suddenly flowed down my face
How hard I tried to fight their trace
Notice did he, that I had turned away
Came running to me, he came my way
Faced me, with a smile on his face
Wiping the tears, from my sunken face
Repeated his question to me, he did dare
"Tell me daddy, what color is my teddy bear

Is he blue like the sky or white as a cloud
Like your love for me, that forever has shroud
Is he red as a rose or black as the night
Like the strength you have given me, to always fight
Is he green like the leaves or brown like the sand
From you I have learnt, to make myself stand
Is he yellow like the daisy or orange like the burning sun
From you I have learnt, to give and never run
You are the best father in all the crowd
Being your son is what makes me proud
I pray, I do, to be always like you
To be the same father, to my child too
It doesn't matter, what color bear is he
What really matters, is that I can see
Get me the teddy, the color you like
And I shall paint it, with my mind alike"

I stood up, bold and tall
My worries seemed nothing at all
My heart wept with joy
Said so much to me, this, my boy
Taught me, not what all can know
Made me see what, none could show
Life is too deep to understand
Life is what you make and not a given hand
Sorrows are, but friends of happiness
They always linger together, in darkness
Finding one, means, the others always around
Embracing them both, is what makes life sound
Always live with what you have got
And make it better, is what I was taught
Striving for more, should we then
After we value, what we have when
Yesterday is not just a past
Yesterday is something, that should last
Tomorrow is not all just unseen
Tomorrow is something, that you have to dream
Today there is very little time
Today is something, not to think, nor waste time

Ran back to the store did I do
Picked up a teddy, not one but two
A color of my choice, had said he
They had all looked beautiful to me
Handed to him first, the shimmering black bear
"This ones to teach you, to embrace all your fear"
Gave him next, the dazzling white bear
"And this ones to guide you, when no ones near
All the other colors, are delightful to see
Paint them all, as you want them to be
Life is short and life is full
Dream along and make it fruitful
But don't get lost along the way
Every stone unturned, has a story to say
Write you own song and you will see
Life is what you make it to be"

Had my life ended or had it begun
Was my duty over, as a father and all done
I didn't know, if I should laugh or cry
But I let the tears roll down and dry
I missed my love, my wife
But I had my son, my very life
Wiped out each others tears did we then
Promised to be each others strength, till the end

My life, had just begun then
My son, walked my hand when

Mahesh Wadhwani

I always apologize for the length of my text as that’s the best way for me to communicate rather than verbally!! Not a man of many words but still manage to doodle when in mood to write, which is rare!! I am not even sure if what I scribble is poetry or even what form or just words that rhyme!! To me writing is an art, a sign of creativity and a means of expression. I don't really think that anyone can just write without any feelings, without having felt, without having lived, experienced or cherished. Whatever one writes, there is some amount of a persons own feelings and presence or of those around them, indicated in the works. So I am thankful to all the people in my life and those yet to come for having given me life, love, happiness and even pain. At-least I have had the opportunity to feel it , live it and express it, whatever it maybe. Cheers! more…
