Because of War

Because of War

A lone reporter
Sits and writes
Keeping time
With the flame
Of candlelight
His eyes have seen
Sleepless nights
Hearing
the children's fright
Who live in this bloody
Deadly fight called war.

The sounds of guns
Are the sounds of war
The lonely frightened
Victims scream and cry
Scream and cry once more
They worship their idols
They pray to their God
They pray for the war to end
And some even pray
For their dead
To come back to life again

The reporter reads about aid
He reads how some people say
"Let's fight this war"
"Let's win this war"
"So our soldiers"
"Our young men maybe protected
From dying in vain"
They pray to their idols
They pray to their god
They pray for the war to end
And some pray for their dead
To come back to life again.

Oh how the fighting continues
Oh how the war goes on
Till one government discontinued
And one government has
Finally won
One carries the flag of victory
The other the flag of defeat
From the winning government
One person shall rule
Demanding all others
To bow at his feet
He reads his Wall Street Journal
While he sips his cup of tea
He has no time to listen
To the cries of the people
Nor has he time to see
But he has ample time
To be worshipped
As a President
A Ruler
A King
And just outside
His palace of riches
The chorus of sorrow sings
The dead
Are quietly buried
The displaced
Are driven away
A young father stands
With a look of despair
Holding his wounded babe
And the victims scream
And the victims cry
They scream and cry once more
Because of bloody
And deadly
Wars.
