SEND ME

JP. 1948 (United Kingdom)

SEND ME
Send me your dream by morning post
Tell me true what you want most
Paint me the picture of what you see
If you have a moment to send it to me

Imprint on my heart with an image clear
So if I reach out you will be that near
Let me fill space between thoughts that I find
With a presence so gentle etched deep to my mind

Show me new ways to reach out and touch
The lips that invite to be kissed so much
Yet let me remember that scent of perfume
That you leave behind in an empty room

Let me tell you I love you in my clumsy way
Whilst I walk on air for the rest of the day
Will you always be there lodged fast in my mind?
Some timeless reminder of what I might find

But now that you know that I can dream too
Does it make any difference at all to you?
Or do you just smile as you fade into mist
With one more random heart to add to the list

Yet if you should love me as I now love you
And keep secret the dream that I have sent too
Then leave a small space on the floor of your heart
Where a memory sleeps to await a restart

So send me your dream if you really can
Though I keep it forever I may not understand
And if you should find that you have my dream too
It will be on that day when I am thinking of you.
