Bird Once Preyed
Delicate species minimal and few
birds of prey, once many flew
eagles eye, claws that catch
mothers protecting young nesting batch
majestic strength, soaring length
speed of high, thermals they fly
sacred symbol, numbers fading
beings of human, caring and aiding
outdoor animals struggle to survive
zoo keepers passion keeps them alive
spectacular, environmentally adjusted
highest level food-chain entrusted
carnivorous feeders instinctual breeders
how long will they survive here?
How many live in hunted fear?
Like so many, on the verge
cradled raising numbers, slowly surge
could it be, the last we'll ever see
crying out in silence, is their plea
they managed to evolve, us to save and solve
