Analysis of The Greener Side
I thought I needed to get away, make my big escape
You weren't what I wanted, it hurt to see your heart break.
There was a whole life out there that I just had to explore
I couldn't go on this way. I just didn't love you anymore.
I saw the tears in your eyes as I told you to go
It tore my heart apart inside but I simply had to know.
What it was like - no commitments, no one to answer to
No one by my side, on my own without you.
I swore the grass was greener on the other side
What I had wasn't what I wanted; my feelings I could not hide.
I tried to let you down gently and be easy on your pride
I just had to make my way over to the greener side.
I partied every night, dated a guy or two
But something wasn't quite the same not like it was with you.
I missed your smile, your laughter, the warmth of your arms
Other guys didn't measure up; I lost interest in their charms.
I swore the grass was greener on the other side
What I had wasn't what I wanted; my feelings I could not hide.
But what I didn't realize was that my feelings had been denied
I never knew that being with you WAS the greener side.
