Analysis of Slaves

History says we were owned.
History says we were stoned.
Destitute and beat down to broken bones.
Chained, bound, and whipped.
A slave still holds her mans hand with the tightest of grips.
Families ripped apart.
Tore away from life and sent to another part.
African americans standing still, for a head count.
Slave masters chasing the run aways.
Slaves had lost their hope and now on their own two legs, they count.
Running and sweating.
Running to the next white man to be neglected.
Uneventful to get help from a fellow slave, although brave.
He can only help you on your journey from the night of arrival, til the wake of the next day.
Lying in a shed on a bed made of straw and hay.
To live he or she will be fed slops.
Crazy that today, the same slops are added to grocery carts.
Segregated and mistreated.
Sold a dream and purpously misleaded.
Brought as a group to a place we never needed.
Brought and sold to make some rich mans life easier.
Bartered and traded to make another families life smooth like gravy.
So do I want 40 acers and a mule?
Do I want reparations soon?
No, Id rather just gripe and write about it.
Keeps my mind fresh and allows newer generations to hear about it.
The childeren and teens today dont know about this.
The riots, and the bats, and the batons, the water hoses, and the segregational signs.
Whites this way, blacks that way, and why?
History says we were owned.
History says we were stoned.
Destitute and beat down to broken bones.

Michael Fisher

{Contact Information mfisher20019@gmail.com (202) 903-5527}Im Michael, 26 year old Washington DC native new to the poetry community. Initially i was scared to try the poetry thing for public view....people and decisions that have been made, make it somewhat difficult to step out on a limb and express such talent. Typically my writing come from internal thoughts and feelings towards certain situations. My completed pieces of work are typically finished within minutes of the idea of the piece...I hope everyone can find something enjoyable about my work.. I welcome advise in reference to my work, as this is a new venture for me. Thanks to all my readers more…
