Analysis of Birth of an Island(WARNING! 108 lines)

Formers of ancient landscape remove clues
With wind and water in it's many forms
What we see is since Glaciers took a cruise
To learn, scholar tests difference from norms

They've learned that dust unlike that blown down street
 Swirled around in Universe's vacuum
Eventually clouds of dust did meet
Formed huge dust whirl in Nebula's back room

Spinning until heat turned it to magma
Then the white hot center became our sun
Flung off into space was thrown off plasma
Still spinning formed young planets. Earth was one

Adored moon formed when Molten rock spewed out
From Earth in rock's wreck. Earth resumed hot spin
Then formed layers with lightest wrapped about
They cooled slowly, holding the heat within

Magma cooled to Basalt to form earth's crust
Rock eroded by water and wind's gust
Millions of years of harshest weather days
Wore the volcanic rock down in the haze

Laid it back down forming layers of rock
Divisions made by violent earthquake's shock
Then volcanic heat or just great pressure
Changed form of the rock to something fresher

Life was plants and worms millions of years past
In time Mackinac Island's base was cast
It's guessed hundreds of million years ago
Where Mackinac Island is now aglow

Inland seas dominated the landscape
Lying smooth as if they were a pancake
The gentle drift would make the seas briny
Then periods of the sun so shiny

Dried up the water in the coastal seas
Soon piles made with help of the gentle breeze
This act continued over untold time
Leaving a great deal of salt at it's prime

But soon enough mineral silt floats in
Allowing a new process to begin
Clay was formed which turned to shales
As ground up shells spread around pushed by gales

Past being left by creatures of the sea
Pressure of sea formed limestone like a quay
Riding on an under bed of old salts
In time rock over it developed faults

Which allowed circulating water through
Washing out the salt to make something new
Caverns which then collapsed as years went by
The limestone fell into stacks some piled high

The circulating water went to work
They built what may be considered a quirk
The water circled around the stacks
Carrying debris, filling in the cracks,

In time turned to cement, formed Breccia
Rhymes with the end of Dyslexia
Ten thousand years ago first appearance
 Of Island with Glacier's disappearance

This could be when arch was formed by the waves
Wore away lower sections same as caves
For about six thousand years past the ice
There mostly were High waters over Gneiss

But don't take that for Granted. You will see
With the ice gone there was a rising sea
Open outlet was at high water mark
Through the Mississippi. Could float an ark.

This was the time most erosion took place.
Hundred miles off was a Beucoux de glace.
Oui! To the East-South East a Glacier sat
Huge waves would hit the east side with a Splat!

Tearing away the rock and leaving bluffs
With quite a bit of help from the wind's huffs
Wind and waves moved gravel like a snow flake
Leaving little loose on East side in it's wake

Maybe couldn't find your way out of the woods,
If lost going to Grandma's house with goods,
By looking for moss on the tree's North side
But if you checked where gravel likes to hide

The flow might tell you which way is the east
Or it would give you things to do at least
Arches of Breccia are rare indeed
It seems anyone who gave it a heed

Since there was anyone there to see it
Figured it would fall with the slightest hit
It's very existence was a riddle
It would cause the Ancient folk to diddle

They determined it's a power center
Maybe a door that man should not enter
There were three main depths of the ancient lake
The shores left made Isle look like wedding cake

Lake Chicago and Lake Algonquin merged
All but Sugarloaf and Fort Holmes submerged
Fort Holmes is labeled as Ancient Island
With ice gone land raised up to be high land

Fort Holmes was likely storm waves farthest reach
The huge waves thus widened Sugarloaf's breech
Wore away much with the help of gravel
Ate more Breccia then Glacier's travel

Which perhaps had thousands foot high shoulders
The Signs are a few non-limestone Boulders
Land rose and through Port Huron lake ran out
Many floods appeared as did times of drought

The water rose to form Nipissing lake.
In that time one could expect an Earth quake
 Crack-in-the-Island likely formed that way
Because of the process back in the day

The land was rebounding from being quashed
Lava flowing in the Globe had been squashed
Ice was heavier farther you look north
You'll find more rising land as you go forth

This mainly is what caused outlets to close
And the main factor in the land's transpose
 Another legend about the Island
Is it was turtle, must be the highland

Once a headland connected to the south
Lake water ran out maybe helped by droughts
But mainly a low outlet was about
Would have been a south east bound route

Then a river ran north around our isle
Into a water fall that ran a while
Hundred feet tall too much for fish that spawn
That seems to been there since the Ice was gone

Then was lost by the lake's repeated rise
Here's something else that may be a surprise
It appears the climate was not as cold
Six Thousand years past I say being bold

After all the Glaciers had receded
 The temperatures all rose unheeded
But then Temps came down to today's level
That and high tides ancient folk didn't revel

Last four thousand years storms have come from west
Building up Isle as if it was it's quest
North is coastal drift or littoral drift
Island building there with help of uplift
