Analysis of Le Pâtre

Maurice Rollinat 1846 (Châteauroux) – 1903 (Ivry-sur-Seine)

Que ce pâtre à jambe de bois
Est donc vieux malgré son jeune âge !
— Il chante, comme c’est l’usage.
Mais quelle épouvantable voix !

Jamais sourire plus narquois
N’a ridé plus hideux visage.
Que ce pâtre à jambe de bois
Est donc vieux malgré son jeune âge !

Voici que ma chienne aux abois
Flaire un calamiteux présage ;
Quant à moi, dans le paysage,
Je ne regarde et je ne vois
Que ce pâtre à jambe de bois.
