Analysis of Pure Innocence
A funny thing happened,
When my daughter was two.
A life and death story,
Was all that she knew.
We lived on a farm,
Baby chickens we had.
But horrible things happened,
When the heat lamp went bad.
Yep, you guessed right,
The baby chickens did die.
And it really broke my heart,
To see my young daughter cry.
Don’t worry my dear,
We will go to the store.
And buy some more chickens,
Just like before.
Around the same time,
My grandpa got sick.
Cancer was discovered,
And time went by quick.
He endured a fate,
Like the chickens went through.
And he soon passed away,
And his suffering too.
My mom was a mess,
And her poor heart had cried.
How to explain to a child,
Their great grandpa had died.
My daughter with her innocence,
Connected the dots.
We bought new baby chickens,
Is all that she thought.
She said to my mom,
Who was still very sad.
Don’t worry grandma,
We will buy you a new dad.
With tears in her eyes,
My mom simply smiled.
The truth is so pure,
When it comes from a child.

About this poem
I wrote this poem to show just how innocent children’s minds really are. It’s amazing how they put things together.
