Analysis of My Perfect World
My Perfect World
By Chris Commodore © Nov. 2021
See, I give you a lovely world
With its vast oceans
Reaching down the dizzying depths
The heart of earth itself
Too deep in spots to think
That you have seen
Only the surface limits
The sea, deeper than you think
See, I gave you the whole world.
What have you done with it?
And with its towering mountains
Rising past the clouds, kissing the heavens
Rooted in the heart of earth
Rock-solid and fathoms deep
Deeper than they reach the skies
And all the trees in rich variety
Too numerous to list
In never-ending plains, vast, intoxicating
Yes, I gave you this lovely world,
What have you done with it?
And massive rivers flowing
From deep within my earth
The heart of mountains
Flooding the vast plains
And all this life in species
Stunning the head, the heart, the soul
I willed you be the king
Sole Ruler of it all; owner of it all
So, I gave you this psychedelic world,
What have you done with it?
Your time – no lasting time
Your stay – a fleeting moment
Just seventy years, and just ten more
Not much beyond, your ownership ends
Your progeny, programmed the same
The skies fold up, hold back their rains
If I so wish, you starve
So, I gave you the world, and everything in it
Yes, I gave you a perfect world
Just look what you’ve done to it!
And with it all the world itself passes away
You know not when, nor why, what day
Mine to decide, mine to arrange
Tenant you are, at best forever
Never shall you rule eternally
To pull and break and trash
And not to build – to build for all
To share the earth, to grow, to pray, to love
I gave you the whole world,
Look what you’ve done with it!
Yet only I can change your fate
Eternal life despite your state
Not to later repay; it’s mine to give
No favors to exact, no lien to stamp
I created programmed benevolently so
Your very spirit, everything is mine
I watch you run, rejecting real life
Knowing not what you refuse
Still, I gave you this lovely world
Imperfect you, ungrateful you.
Shame, what you’ve done to it!
And in my kingdom, you to allow?
My sacred realm forever now?
There too to claim a right to rule?
My angels like on earth to separate?
My realm like earth to ruin, desecrate?
Perhaps forgetting I gave you this world
That you have scared polluted, destroyed
Yes, I gave you a perfect world
And look what you have done to it!
