Analysis of Destruction and Hope: Consequences

In shadows cast by cannons' fiery roar,
Where dreams once bloomed, now lies a barren shore,
A tapestry of hopes in tatters torn,
By war's relentless grasp, its heart of scorn.

Innocence, the casualty of the fight,
As children gaze upon a starless night,
Their laughter silenced, echoes swept away,
As war devours the dawn of a new day.

Lovers torn apart by cruel design,
As distance widens, hearts begin to pine,
Promises unravel in the wind's cruel gust,
As dreams are ground to dust, to ashes thrust.

The artist's brush, once vibrant strokes of hue,
Now paints the canvas with a somber view,
The poet's pen, once filled with words so sweet,
Now spills the ink of sorrow and defeat.

In battle's wake, the scholar's voice grows dim,
As wisdom's flame is quenched by war's cruel hymn,
The melodies of culture slowly fade,
Replaced by cannons and the clash of blade.

Oh, how the consequences deeply scar,
As nations clash in conflicts near and far,
For dreams that once soared high on wings of light,
Lie shattered now, lost in the endless night.

Let us remember well the cost of war,
And strive for peace, its virtues to restore,
For in its wake, it leaves a world undone,
And countless hearts that ache for what's been won.

May empathy and understanding rise,
To mend the broken dreams, to clear the skies,
For in unity and love, we find our way,
To heal the wounds that war has left to stay.

Tammie Swinehart

Not much to say. I live in a small town in Indianapolis and work full-time as a manager for an insurance company. I have written poems going back to grade school. They were all horrible, but fun and passed the time. I have journals of poems that go back 40 years. So now that I have more free time, I dig them out, clean them up while preserving the original thought and meaning behind them. more…
